Charts are a great way to see what's trending on Mixcloud across a huge range of genres and different locations.
More than 500 of the genre tags in our database offer an associated chart. We update these charts daily so you can find popular and rising shows to listen to, and to help creators get your shows out there and build your communities.
NB: Creators can choose to include tags for genres that don't have an official chart and custom tags. If a tag doesn't have an official chart associated with it, you'll still be able to see the all-time popular shows and latest uploads that include the tag.
Head to https://www.mixcloud.com/discover/ to check out what's currently charting, or read on to learn more about:
How the charts work
How long can my show chart for?
When a creator uploads a show, it will be eligible to enter the charts for up to 7 days from when it's first made available for all listeners.
- Unlisted shows are private and won't be able to enter the charts.
- If you publish a show as a subscriber-only Exclusive, it won't be able to enter the charts until you choose to make it available to all listeners.
Which charts will my show be included in?
Shows will be entered into charts associated with the tags used on the upload.
- We recommend a combination of broad genres (eg. ‘techno’ or ‘bass & club music’) and more specific tags (eg. ‘future bass’ or ‘acid techno’) to help listeners find the content they're looking for and to give your show a better chance of ranking in the 500+ charts we have on Mixcloud.
-
You may wish to double-check that the tags you're using have eligible charts by checking them against the list at the end of this article, or by searching for them at https://www.mixcloud.com/genres/ and looking to see if you can filter by 'Chart'.
If you only see options for 'Popular' and 'Latest', there isn't currently a chart associated with the tag you've used. - Be careful if you decide to update your show's tags after publishing it. If you remove the tag for a genre you've charted in, your chart position will no longer be displayed on your show.
How are charts calculated?
Chart rankings are based on authentic listener engagement. Engagement includes the number of listens, favourites, shares, and the number of minutes (or hours!) that listeners have enjoyed your show for.
- Keep up the momentum with your show by promoting it on Mixcloud (by tagging hosts and Boosting) and on your socials.
- If you have a Pro subscription, you can check out your show's stats to get a better picture of how listeners are connecting with your show.
When are chart positions updated?
Your show's chart position will be calculated once per day for up to 7 days.
- All chart positions are calculated at a set time during the day (GMT time zone). Depending on when you upload your show and the time zone you're in, it may take up to 24 hours before chart positions are reflected on your show page.
Global charts and local charts
When you visit the chart page at https://www.mixcloud.com/genres/, you might notice that some of the most popular genres offer an additional feature; the ability to filter the Chart, Popular, and Latest lists by country.
If a specific genre offers a local chart for the territory you're based on, you'll be shown the local list by default. You can toggle the list to view shows that are popular in other locations or across the globe.
If a genre you've tagged offers local charts, you'll be able to chart in both the global list and the local list relevant to where you're based.
The highest rank that your show achieves in each genre it's tagged in for the global chart will be stored and displayed on your show page.
This means that if your show achieved a position in the local charts only (or a higher position in the local charts than the global charts), you may perceive a drop in your show's overall rank after 7 days.
FAQs
What happens if the tag I've used doesn't have a chart?
If you're using a custom tag or a tag for a genre that doesn't have a chart, your show won't be able to achieve a ranking. However, your show may still appear under the 'Latest' or 'Popular' tabs when someone clicks or searches for the tag.
You may wish to consider changing the tag for one with an official chart. You can find the list of genres with charts below, or search at https://www.mixcloud.com/genres/.
We regularly review the list of genres with charts. If you've got a suggestion for a new chart, please contact our Support Team and let us know which charts you'd like to see in the future!
Why isn't my show at a higher rank?
We understand how important it is to achieve a high rank on the charts, and that checking out other high-charting shows can be a good way to understand what's trending and how other creators are finding success on the platform.
Because we take into account a number of different means of engagement when calculating your chart position, it may not be possible to compare your show's chart positions with another by looking at individual factors (eg. total number of plays).
For more tips on boosting your chart position, we recommend checking out: How To Get The Best Chart Position
Why is the final rank for my show lower than expected?
If your final rank is lower than it was during your show's week in the charts, this will be because the higher rank was in the local charts only.
If your show achieved a position in the local charts only (or a higher position in the local charts than the global charts), you may perceive a drop in your show's overall rank after 7 days.
Will I receive a notification about chart positions?
Depending on your notification settings, you'll receive an email and/or push notification from the Mixcloud app when your show achieves a new or higher chart position in the global charts.
If you're not receiving these notifications, please double-check your Notifications settings on the Mixcloud site and app, and make sure that noreply@mixcloudmail.com is on your safe sender list to help avoid our emails being sent to your spam folder.
