How do I choose my username?

Choosing the right username is an important step to make sure your channel is easily recognizable and that other creators, listeners, and friends can find you. 

Here are our top tips for selecting a username:

    1. Pick something unique to you.
      This will help your channel stand out. 
    2. Consider avoiding uncommon characters and symbols.
      This will make it easier for other users to find you using the search bar. 
    3. Don't include anything that may be considered hateful or violent content.

    4. Keep secure and don't include sensitive personal details.
      Your username will be visible to other users. 

 

What's the difference between a username and a display name?

Your username is the official name associated with your account.

You can use this to log into Mixcloud instead of your email address. Your URL (the link others can use to access your channel from the browser) will also match your username, eg. https://www.mixcloud.com/[username]

When you create your account, your username will be used as both your display name and your URL.

Your display name is the name shown at the top of your Mixcloud channel.

 

Can I change my username, display name or URL?

Yes. You can change these at any time from your Mixcloud settings.

We recommend keeping both of these the same to avoid any confusion for users trying to find your channel. However, you can update either your display name or URL (or both) at any time by heading to your account settings. 

Just so you know, when you update your channel's URL, all widgets, shared shows and links to your profile will become inactive. Be careful!

Updating your display name

On a computer:

  1. Log in to Mixcloud 
  2. Head to https://www.mixcloud.com/settings/profile/
  3. Find Display name and make your update
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save profile settings

Via the mobile app:

  1. Log in to your Mixcloud account
  2. Press your profile picture in the top-left corner of the screen
  3. Press the three dots in the top-right corner of the screen
  4. Press the Settings cog
  5. Press Profile
  6. Tap the Display name field and enter your new display name 
  7. Press Done in the top-right corner of the app

Updating your channel's URL

On a computer:

  1. Log in to Mixcloud 
  2. Head to https://www.mixcloud.com/settings/account/
  3. Find Profile URL near the bottom of the page and make your update
  4. If you're sure you want to make this change, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save profile settings

Via the mobile app:

  1. Log in to your Mixcloud account
  2. Press your profile picture in the top-left corner of the screen
  3. Press the three dots in the top-right corner of the screen
  4. Press the Settings cog
  5. Press Account
  6. Press Profile URL
  7. Tap the Profile URL field and update it
  8. If you're sure you want to make this change, press Done in the top-right corner of the app

 

The username I want isn't available

I previously had a Mixcloud account and I want to reuse the username.

Account deletions are permanent and we won't be able to recover your previous account. 

If you've deleted your account, this may also free up your username, and it may have been taken by another user.

If the username you previously used isn't associated with another user's account, please get in touch with our Support team to reclaim it.

Someone else is using the username I want to use

It's important to make sure your username is unique so you can best promote your channel and share your profile. If the username you wanted is already in use, you may need to use an alternative. 

However, in some cases, our Support team may be able to help:

If the username is associated with an inactive account

If the Mixcloud account with the username you wish to use is inactive, we may be able to make the username available for you. Some account activity may not be visible to the public, so please write to our Support team so we can review the account and let you know if the username can be freed up for you. 

If you own the trademark to the username

If you're the legal owner of the rights to a trademarked username you wish to use, please fill in our form to get in touch with our Support team. 

 

What happens to my username if my channel is inactive?

If your channel is inactive for over 6 months, we reserve the right to close your account.

We also reserve the right to make your username available for reuse if your account hasn't been used in over 6 months. If this happens, we'll try to get in touch with you to provide 72 hours' notice, using the email address associated with your Mixcloud account. 

To make sure your account doesn't become inactive, we recommend that you log in and upload or listen to content at least once every 6 months.
